Public Safety Psychology PLLC (PSP) was founded by William McIntyre, Ph.D. in 2004 as the incorporated successor to Albany Forensic Psychologists that had operated as a DBA since 1996. The focus of PSP is to provide psychological evaluations to public safety agencies. Our main office is located in Albany, NY and we have associates located in other areas across New York state. The result is an ability to deliver evaluation services to agencies across New York State and surrounding states in a timely and effective manner.
Dr. McIntyre, the director of Public Safety Psychology, has worked in the field of police and public safety psychology since 1989. He started out evaluating applicants for several local departments in his position as a psychologist with the Albany County Mental Health Center and through his private practice. To educate himself about the demands of the job of Police Officer, Corrections Officer and other public safety positions, he has taken numerous police ride alongs, toured state prisons and worked as the director of a mental health unit in a county jail.
Since 1995, Dr. McIntyre has been affliated with Law Enforcement Psychological Services, Inc. (LEPS), whose president is Dr. Michael Roberts. Through this affliation, Dr. McIntyre has come to use the standard LEPS assessment process that is used with approximately 70 public safety agencies across the country. LEPS clients include the Washington D.C. Police Department, U.S. Park Police, Chicago Police Department, San Francisco Police Department, and San Jose Police Department. Dr. McIntyre has had the opportunity to work with several of these agencies over the past ten years. Since 1999, LEPS and Dr. McIntyre have formed a joint venture agreement to service a contract with several large agencies in New York State, including the State Police and the Department of Correctional Services. In our work with local and regional agencies, Dr. McIntyre and Public Safety Psychology function as the sole vendor and use the same tests and criteria developed by LEPS that are used with the large state and national agencies.
